Textures

To creating the textures for the 3D study i first took some digital pictures with a nikon camrea of my carpet and wood texture of my desk.

CARPET
 WOOD

After taking them from the camera to the hard drive,i then opened them in Adobe Photoshop, in this software I croped a slection that looked suitable and saved them as a Tga file, the carpet texture and Wallpaper I gray scaled first, then altered the R,G,B to a colour that suited my study, the wood texture seemed to look fine as it was. When applying them in the 3D Modle, I first added a Blinn texture, then added the photos I saved out in Photoshop, i could then select the whole modle or just the faces i wanted the texture to be added to.

Test Animations

Here are a few test animations (linked to Youtube) before any of the final videos, there is no sound on most and the idea was to give a general run through of the animation adn tweek any final bits if needed:

Final Lamp Animation

Here is the final lamp animation sequence, i have created a Youtube account as compressing the final video file became to pixlelated when streched:-

Assesment Review

After todays assesment on this module, there are a few things I need to upload to my blog, the next few post will be on topics such has textures and how i created/ edited them, a few examples of trial runs of the animation before the final one and so on.

Week 12

Week 12 and after a few tweeks and editing im fairly happy with my final animation result, after reviwing the work overall and a chance to crit myself and the opportunity to start over there would be a few things I would like to improve. It would have been nice to add better textures to give it a more life like look, also maybe learn more about the use of lighting effetcs. In terms of animation it would have been great to animate the flys wings and movements much more life like.
To create the final animation I rendered each frame to a folder (tga format), used free software called VitualDub and impoted all the frames, this crated the full moving animation and saved out as as an avi. I used Adobe Premier to import the video animation, added sound effects which i downloaded from the internet and edited in Audacity, finally expoted full project as a MOV file.

Week 11

Week 11, after a quick review of my animation I decided to retry animating the camera and also figured out how to key frame the lamp to switch ON and OFF, I have now tweek the animation and also changed a few parts in the study its self for example the carpet texture and colour also the skirting boards enlarged slightly. I re rendered the animation again, and have placed it back into Adobe Premier to alter a few sound effects.

Week 10

Week 10, I have now started to animate the project, after a few renders and tweeks I am reasonably happy with the way its looking.  I have altered a few sections for example I am no longer moving the bin when the fly hits it, I have also altered the room slighlty by removing objects that will not be in view as my main focus will be in one area. When I have mananged to complete the final render I will attempt to put the avi into Adobe Premier to add sound effects, the animation is based on comedy in the end but the sound will give it that edge/effect needed.

Week 9

This week i managed to complete the modeling of the fly, i added some basic tetxtures just to give it a more realistic look, ive imported it and scaled it in the study model,im now ready to begin animating. My plan is to get the animation down and close to the original plan, then i will try get the room lighting just right for the scene.

Week 8

Week 8 in 3D modeling, i think ill keep this room as my final one, i added a curtain pole and curtains just to finish off, next i wont to concentrate on modeling the fly, allthough i dont want it highly detailed the aim will be to make it look aleast beliveable as an insect.

Week 7

Week 7, not much progress from last week at present, added a few different textures to the  table carpet, looks much better than just plane colour. I also made a few duplicates of the lamp head, bulb and base, rotated them and positioned them to make a roof spotlight. The study itself is almost complete, next i wll be focusing on modeling the fly, then import and scale as needed.

Week 6

Week 6, mainlly just added more modles to my study scene, applyed a few basic textures and addded a light just to see what the scene looks like rendered, also started to model a fly,not in great detail as it will not be seen still for a long period of time.

Week 5

Week 5 for modeling, at this point i have modeled around half the Study for my Lamp animation, i have the key features to make it look like a study without going into to much detail, i have started applying textures to some objects to get the genereal idea of how it will look before i begin animating the lamp and eventually the fly.

Week 4

Week 4 of Modeling & Animation in Maya, this week i had the chance for me to just recap on the Key framing in Maya, i had the chance to have another go at the Walk animation,i have around 3 versions of the walk cycle to submit, one seems to have more character than the other which i personaly think is the best.
I also story borded my idea for my lamp animation, the basic idea is a fly in a study interacting with the lamp, ive also started to model my study.

Week 3

This week I had a chance to create a Polygon Primitive Cube with multiple sub divisions, selected the faces on one side and Extured them, the idea to create a very basic hand. I then Scaled the cube as required to make it look flater, applyed a Subdiv Proxy, this would create a smoothed copy if you like of the Primitice Cube hand, by moving the new smoothed copy to one side,I could ajust the Primitive however i needed and the smoothed copy would update along side. After reaching a fairly basic looking example i then deleted the history and deleted the Primitive hand, rendered the scene just for a copy of the work.
Here is a quick example of using the brush/paint tools Maya also features

Week 2

Today I had the chance to recap on some basic animation with a NURBS Sphere and Squash and Stretch techniques which I used in the first year in drawing principles. The general idea is to move the Sphere and Key in a frame, alter the sphere's shape, rotaion and position and key frame again, eventually build up a 24 framed animation of a sphere bouncing, I also had the chance to use and  apply a basic texture to give it a beach ball look.

Walk Cycle Extended

Here is the same walk cycle except i have just extended the walk to move from the one position

Walk Cycle

After a few attempts i have produce a failry good looking walk cycle of a character, there are other parts i would like to have altered but i think i may have set the 'Character Set' incorrectly, so joints such as the Elbow,Fingers where not displaying as a Key frame. I will be looking into this further as i would like to have set the Rig up myself to see how the process works from start to finish.

Week 1

Week 1 of 3D Modeling & Animation, this was just a general overview of some basic features that Maya has to offer.  This first part was just to familiarise my self with the Move,Scale and Rotate Tools, aslo the lighting and shading. I also had the opportunity to try the various shortcut features Maya has.
We where also given the brief as to the assignment & learning outcomes, one is to produce a walk cycle using a supplied figure, the second is to produce a 10 second animation using an object such as a lamp to interact with with another object.
